How to upgrade Firefox 1.5

As I’ve been reading various discussion groups, it occurs to me that when a user reads that Firefox 1.5.0.1 is out, he/she rushes to the Mozilla website to download it. Sorta puts all that hard work on the update system to waste .

Yes, I know the majority of Firefox users probably don’t hang out in technical discussion groups; but still, wherever you see an announcement, let them know that 1.5 users can use Help -> Check for Updates.

    That doesn’t help always, at least for people like me running strange OSes (not the official trio) – OpenSUSE/PPC, FreeBSD/x86.

    The moment there’s an announcement, I download the source and compile it :)

    In my experience, the update is not turned on until a while after the release… Fortunately with 1.5.0.1 that is not the case :-)

    The auto-update didn’t happen for me, nor the check for updates.

    Build ID is 2005111116. Perhaps I ought to file a bug.

    The auto-update worked fine for me, and I want to say I’m very happy about it, it was annoying to have to go to the Moz website and download the new version each time… If only all the sofware had this option ;-)

    The auto-update worked for me just great. Unfortunately when the dialog appeared I just clicked “OK” without thinking too hard, and immediately lost the contents of the Wiki page I’d been editing for the past half hour. Now can anyone help me recover the last copy from the cache? I’ve found out about about:cache-entry and I reckon I know which key points to my data, but how to actually view the cache data instead of cache info and request headers from it?

    How about some putting some detection code on the site to see if you’re running FF, and adding a “please use the update feature” note?

    Partial update failed on two different machines. Had to download the full update each time. I did use the check for updates feature though, and appreciated not having to Next > Next > Next through any wizards.

    The auto update worked perfectly right up to the point where I now get (Try Again…” when clicking for certain sites and now when going to the AOL site..I get..”server trying to redirect..and it just hangs..” Tried uninstalling..reinstalling…no luck…yeah great update for the average joe….NOT.

    Hmm, I get an error when checking for updates: AUS: Connection timed out

    Which is followed by instructions to go to the website and update manually. ^_^

    hii,
    I have firefox 1.5 installed, now i wanna upgrade it to 2.0. But i m getting error like (unknown build error)
    My /usr/ports/www/firefox has 2.0 version. What shoud i do ?
