{"id":90,"date":"2006-05-09T20:35:00","date_gmt":"2006-05-10T03:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ilias.ca\/blog\/?p=90"},"modified":"2019-03-18T19:58:26","modified_gmt":"2019-03-18T23:58:26","slug":"getting-rid-of-the-new-mail-alert-in-the-windows-system-tray","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ilias.ca\/blog\/2006\/05\/getting-rid-of-the-new-mail-alert-in-the-windows-system-tray\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting rid of the &#8216;new mail&#8217; alert in the Windows system tray"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getthunderbird.com\/\">Mozilla Thunderbird<\/a> users may have noticed that turning off &#8220;Show an alert&#8221; for when new messages arrive, does not get rid of the alert that appears in the Windows system tray.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ilias.ca\/screenshots\/win-systrayalert.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s actually a Windows feature (I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s on anything other than XP), that lets you to disable that alert.<br \/>\nOn the very edge of the system tray, right-click and select &#8220;<strong>Customize Notifications<\/strong>&#8221; in the content menu.<br \/>\nSelect the Thunderbird item, and using the drop-down menu, choose &#8220;<strong>Always Hide<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Update<\/span>: Another method to get to &#8220;Customize Notifications&#8221; is via the Windows Control Panel -&gt; Taskbar and Start Menu.
