{"id":36,"date":"2005-08-05T17:08:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-06T00:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ilias.ca\/blog\/?p=36"},"modified":"2019-03-18T20:27:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T00:27:35","slug":"a-plea-to-google","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ilias.ca\/blog\/2005\/08\/a-plea-to-google\/","title":{"rendered":"A Plea to Google"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is common practise, and good net etiquette, in email and newsgroups to quote the text of a message you are replying to. <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/\">Google Groups<\/a> reiterates this on their <a href=\"http:\/\/groups-beta.google.com\/support\/bin\/answer.py?answer=12348&amp;topic=250\">Netiquette page<\/a>. So why the heck does their <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.ilias.ca\/dp-googlereply.png\" alt=\"'Reply'\"\/> button that appears below each post on Google Groups <em>not<\/em> quote the message being replied to? They even have the ability to automatically quote, because their other other &#8216;Reply&#8217; button that appears in the &#8216;Show Options&#8217; area <em>does<\/em> automatically quote. Since the new Google Groups system was implemented, around one third of the posts on usenet now do not contain any quoted text. Most Google Groups users do not know that is bad, because they&#8217;re novice internet users.<br \/>\nWhy even have a button that does not automatically quote the message being replied to?
