Laws like this might be an annoyance, but they're right that people who aren't paying attention to the road are a hazard to everyone else (whether they're texting, or changing the radio, or dealing with a screaming child). @Neil - consider the effect on insurance. If you have an accident while talking on your phone - even if entirely blameless - you can expect your insurance company to use it as a reason to not pay out. @Chris – you’re entirely correct.
