Removing the ‘Go’ button in Firefox 2

Among the changes in Firefox 2 is that the ‘Go’ button is now attached to the address bar, when customizing toolbars. Some Firefox users may prefer not to display the ‘Go’ button, because they use the |Enter| key, or use the Paste and Go 2 extension.

You can get rid of the ‘Go’ button by entering about:config in the address bar. In the resulting page, search for the preference browser.urlbar.hideGoButton.
Double-click on it, which should change the value to true.

The “go” button never made much sense to me since you already have your fingers on the keyboard when typing the address and you can just as well hit the Enter button then. But apparently, some people are lost without it, so I guess it’s good to have it there as a default.

Thanks for mentioning how to get rid of it ;)

Unfortunately, those of us who want to move it instead of remove it need an extension to do the job. :(

Great! Now if one could just find the “hideSearchGoButton” configuration… :)

When I select a site from the dropdown, I have to push enter or Go. It used to load automatically in FF1.
    Any ideas?

Yeah, super Handy, thanks! Go button was really frustrating me. Now if I can only remove that new wikisearch google through up, thats my new most hated unwanted upgrade.
