Live Bookmarks Refresh Rate

by August 11, 2005 Firefox, Mozilla

[For Firefox users]
Sometimes people ask how often Firefox refreshes live bookmarks.
The default is set to 30 minutes, but you can change that.
Enter about:config in the location bar.
Right-click anywhere within the list of preferences and select New -> Integer.

When you get asked to enter the preference name, enter:

You will then be asked to enter a value. Set the value to whatever refresh rate you’d like. The unit for the value is seconds, so if you wanted the refresh rate to be 5 minutes, the value would be 300 (as in 300 seconds).

  1. Thanks for this, just what I was looking for 😀

  2. Extremely helpful blog entry… thanks a lot!

  3. Great information, helped me tons. Works in Firefox 1.6

  4. Didn’t work for me. I’m using 1.0.6.

  5. Didn’t work for me either in 1.0.7. I set it to 10 seconds and observed the bookmark, but it didn’t seem like it was trying to refresh.

  6. Thanks for this tip Chris. I’m using 1.0.7. There seems to be a lower limit of approx 60 seconds.

  7. Jim on Tyneside UK

Does not seem to work for me either on 1.5 R3
I set the time as 60.

  8. Great!!!

  9. Please, don’t set it to check every minute (which seems to be the minimum). It isn’t nice to be checking hundreds of times a day, when you’ll only check the Live Bookmark twice.

  10. Helpful. Thanks, was just what i was looking for.

  11. I’m using RSS on a private server feed so checking every 30 seconds would be helpful. If I was checking somewhere else maybe, but I don’t think there should be a lower limit.

  12. Fantastic! Very useful – I’ve been looking for ages for a way to do this, through all the options screens and help files and the lot!

  13. The setting should be an individual setting on each bookmark. Maybe in another release?

  14. extremely useful!!!

  15. hey i need a recommendation on a server with 30 seconds refresh rate.
